Learn About Our 6 Inspirational Great Danes!

My Pampered Dane is a family business so this page is going to be more about family and danes than business.  Jack and I are parents to 2 teen skin kids, 8 dogs ( 5 Great Danes) 8 cats, 2 prairie dogs, 2 miniature Chinese hamsters. We do things differently than most, but it works for us and we'd love to tell you about it.

We...

  • Respect the earth and its creatures, we get many benefits in return.

  • Trust God's plan for us and others. Bad things happen, God is good.

  • Teach our children at home. We love the family time.

  • Enjoy a large number of pets. All of which we bring inside our dome house to
    live with us.

  • Value our natural surroundings, no chemicals on grass, garden or animals.

  • Work with nature for balance in our little spot on the earth. We do not have flea or tick issues. In this fire ants have become our friends.

  • Avoid the nightly news.  Fear is a drug. And its sold each night at 6 and 10.

  • Practice herbal medicine for ourselves and our pets.

  • Feed raw food to some pets, kibble to others.

  • Choose not to vaccinate our pets...nor our children.  It compromises their immune systems. To vaccinate is to risk illness greater than any disease meant to be prevented by them.

  • Believe in limited vet care. Our vet is wonderful! We are blessed to have him. Yet we still educate ourselves in prevention of sickness and disease so we can partner with out vet when needed, avoid visits when possible. Herbal and Natural Treatments are a staple in our house.

  • Feel one with all Dane People even if we do some things differently.

This is how we became Great Dane People.

We went to visit our In-laws.  They had 2 rescued Great Dane at the time. They have since started Heartland Great Dane Rescue. Well we fell in love with their Zeuss and Babe. We said we wanted one. But we didn't really know what we were getting into. We needed to learn.

When we got home we went to the internet to learn more ...we looked up our local Great Dane Rescue ... Dane Angel Network.

We saw this photo of Ted...

Who wouldn't fall in love?

We walked through the door to our first rescue meet and greet with Ted and fell in love all over again.

He was smiling at us, wagging, happy to see us, not at all freaked out by all
four of us trying to pet him at the same time. The people there chit
chatted a little with us while we loved on Ted. They didn't find
our alternative views the least bit odd. Well if they did, it didn't matter
much. They continued on meeting other people who came and went.  As we kept
petting and conversing with Ted.  They finished meeting people and started a
business meeting, while we petted, conversed, and loved on Ted.  Eventually
the meeting ended. They had to tell us it was time to go.

Covered with hair and glowing, we drove the 2 hours home with non-stop talk
about "our " new dog.  We hadn't been told he was ours and it would be weeks
of applications, visits and checking us out until we did find out he was
ours, but it didn't matter right then.

On that trip home and in our hearts he was ours
and we were making plans.

In the coming weeks the rescue people got to know us.  They seemed to find our
quirkiness refreshing, and they awarded Ted to us on September, 15th 2002.  We
weren't perfect, but Ted chose us and because these rescue folks had seen
this many times, they knew what it looked like when a Dane chose a family.

So we were educated about what we didn't know about danes...which was a lot!

Both Heartland Great Dane Rescue and Dane Angel Network folks helped us learn the basics of Dane Care.

Since then we have become a foster family for both Great Dane Groups.  Keeping most of the Danes we fostered due to them having special needs that made them difficult to adopt out.  We seem to be magnets for special needs danes! LOL!

Our first Danes, Ted and Phoebe made us Great Dane People!

Great Dane People we have found  ARE a bit odd, they don't just LOVE their danes...they live their lives around them!

Be it, as with us, simply living shared
lives with our treasured pets. Or as others do, Re-homing the lost and discarded
ones as Dane Rescuers. Or participating in Dane sports such as Confirmation,
Obedience, Agility, Rally Obedience, or training Danes as working dogs for
human assistance work.

No matter how diverse each of us are: it is the breed that defines us and brings us together.

My Pampered Dane came about primarily due to the fact that with such large numbers of animals we could no longer foster for rescue, but we still wanted to show our support. I started making a few things to donate for rescue events and the rest is history.

It fit our style, involving our little family in a home business that would extend our creativity, teach our boys how business works, draw in the skills of my husband, and further the cause of re-homing Great Dane and the breed itself.  We started Great Dane Hand-Crafted and soon after establishing that business name, My Pampered Dane became a subsidiary. We functioned on word of mouth advertising with no real business plan for a year. My Pampered Dane became a Web based entity in the Fall of 2004.

Today, we vow to keep the business home-based and small. We have had offers to go national, but after reading this far you know we didn't take the offers.

Happy Day!
